Eclipse is an open source community whose projects
are focused on providing an extensible development
platform and application frameworks for building software.
Eclipse provides extensible tools and frameworks
that span the software development lifecycle,
including support for modeling, language development
environments for Java, C/C++ and others, testing and
performance, business intelligence, rich client
applications and embedded development.
A large, vibrant ecosystem of major technology vendors,
innovative start-ups, universities and research
institutions and individuals extend, complement
and support the Eclipse Platform.

QuantumDB is a simple but powerful database access
plug-in for the Eclipse Development Platform.
QuantumDB allows you to:

DB Schema Viewer is an Eclipse plugin that builds a graphical
view of an existing database.
Reverse Engineering is performed through JDBC.
The most popular databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL and Firebird)
are currently supported. The UI is build around GEF.
- data tools platform project
-
"Data Tools" is a vast domain, yet there are a fairly
small number of foundational requirements
when developing with or managing data-centric systems.
A developer is interested in an environment that is easy to
configure, one in which the challenges of application
development are due to the problem domain,
not the complexity of the tools employed.
Data management, whether by a developer working on an application,
or an administrator maintaining or monitoring a production system,
should also provide a consistent, highly usable environment
that works well with associated technologies.

- Extensible Markup Language (XML)
-
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple,
very flexible text format derived from SGML (ISO 8879).
Originally designed to meet the challenges of large-scale
electronic publishing, XML is also playing an increasingly
important role in the exchange of a wide variety of data on the
Web and elsewhere.
